Help us complete the first source-available, air-gapped signer designed exclusively for Bitcoin Cash self-custody.SeedCash is a specialized device for ultimate security and control over your Bitcoin Cash (BCH). It empowers users to be their own bank, offering complete control over private keys and funds while remaining isolated from potential threats. SeedCash focuses exclusively on BCH security, providing a reliable, auditable, and user-friendly solution.What is SeedCash?A private key is nothing more than a randomly chosen number within an immense range of possibilities. Consequently, preserving our property in Bitcoin Cash depends exclusively on safeguarding this number –the private key– securely and secretly, and, at the same time, being able to use it to interact with the system, that is, with the Bitcoin Cash network. We identify two critical activities: first, the secure custody of the private key and, second, the use of said key, for example, to sign a transaction. The usual practice in Bitcoin Cash consists of entering the private key into a desktop or mobile application, normally through the BIP-39 standard, so that the application is responsible for obtaining public keys, addresses, signing transactions, etc. This described practice is sufficiently secure for handling a small amount of funds. However, for bitcoin cash users wishing to custody a medium or large amount, entering the private key into an internet-connected device —such as a computer or mobile phone— represents a serious security vulnerability. SeedCash is a specialized device for Bitcoin Cash, an "air-gapped" device, that is, without even the possibility of connecting to the internet or Bluetooth, since it does not have the necessary hardware for this purpose. The memory of the microcomputer used is volatile, which means it does not store any type of information and, consequently, each time it is turned on, it does not remember any previously entered data. This amnesia property ensures that the information entered —our private key, among other elements— is not stored on the device after use. SeedCash acts as a bridge between keeping our private key secret and using it in those practices where its participation is necessary. It is a secure and specialized computer that asks us, each time we turn it on, for our private key through the BIP-39 or SLIP-39 protocols, and from there offers a series of functionalities, all of them dependent on prior knowledge of the private key entered. The fact of being able to enter our private key in a secure, isolated, and memoryless environment, such as SeedCash, allows us to generate an address or an xpub, among many other functions, without compromising the security of our private key at any time. Since to interact with Bitcoin Cash we must not only keep our private key secret, but also operate with it, we will always need a computer to perform these activities. SeedCash is that specialized computer for users seeking the maximum level of security in the custody and use of Bitcoin Cash.Is SeedCash a Hardware Wallet?SeedCash is not a HW (Hardware Wallet). A HW is a digital device in which a private key is stored in encrypted form. Although it is true that several popular HWs incorporate additional functionalities, such as address generation or transaction signing, the main characteristic that defines a HW is the encrypted storage of the private key. SeedCash, as we have explained, does not store any data. Consequently, it is not a HW.Is SeedCash less secure than a HW?Although it is pertinent to clarify this question, the question itself is not well formulated, given that security in SeedCash and in a HW depend on different elements. In a hardware wallet, security relies on the encryption algorithm of the private key and the password used for its decryption. As long as the algorithm is robust and the owner retains both the decryption key and the device where their encrypted private key is stored, the system can be considered secure. In SeedCash, security does not depend on the device itself —since it does not contain sensitive information— but on how we preserve, externally to the device, our private key. For instance, our BIP39 and BIP44 implementations were built entirely from scratch for BCH. While the higher complexity of SLIP39 requires some external dependencies, these are strictly limited to widely used, reputable, and thoroughly vetted libraries, heavily mitigating supply-chain risks.Minimalist Custom OS: SeedCash runs on a custom, highly stripped-down Linux operating system. By explicitly removing support for unnecessary hardware interfaces like USB, HDMI, and serial ports, and using a strictly read-only filesystem, the potential attack surface is minimized to an absolute minimum.GPG-signed images: Each SeedCash .img file includes a digital signature for authenticity verification.Development Progress: Where Are We Today?In 2025, SeedCash built the foundational architecture of the project. At its core is a custom, highly optimized Linux OS, providing a rock-solid base for a comprehensive suite of features. Prioritizing security and transparency, we engineered our BIP-44 and BIP-39 protocols from the ground up to ensure absolute auditability and zero third-party dependence. BIP-39 and SLIP-39 private key generation protocols support extensive configurations. BIP-39 is fully compatible with 12, 15, 18, 21, or 24-word seeds, whether the user is generating a new wallet or recovering an existing one. The recovery process is driven by an intuitive, predictive keyboard. Once the seed phrase is securely entered, users can leverage our passphrase mechanism for an additional layer of security. To eliminate user error, successful login presents both a numeric hash and our "Visual Hash"—a unique, abstract visual representation of the wallet. This ensures users can instantly and confidently verify they are accessing the correct funds. The current device interface boasts the following operational capabilities:Export XprivExport XpubGenerate Address (Legacy/CashAddr)Sign Transaction (Currently in development)Expel Wallet (The system overwrites and erases all data used during the session)Our current development focus is heavily dedicated to finalizing the core "Sign Transaction" capability and its supporting infrastructure. In 2025, completing the offline transaction signing via PSBT v145 (an evolution of the standard PSBT v2) was halted by both economic and technological barriers—most notably, the PSBT v145 protocol did not yet exist on the BCH network. With that barrier now cleared, we are positioned to finalize this critical feature.SeedCash 2026 (v2.0.0) & Bitcoin Cash Ecosystem IntegrationOur roadmap for 2026 includes the delivery of SeedCash v2.0.0, rolling out from an initial beta to a finalized, fully audited release. A cornerstone of this version is the integration of PSBT v145 management. This milestone will make SeedCash the premier hardware device built specifically for Bitcoin Cash, offering isolated key management for highly secure transaction signing.Strategic partnerships are key to our progress. We are working closely with Paytaca, whose foundational work brought PSBT v145 to BCH—acting as the catalyst that allowed us to accelerate SeedCash's development. Paytaca’s upcoming read-only (watch-only) wallets, combined with their active multisignature capabilities, are essential components of the SeedCash infrastructure. Our long-term vision includes seamless integration with a diverse array of wallets throughout the growing BCH ecosystem.More Than a DeviceIt is important to highlight the educational mission behind the SeedCash project. We aim to establish ourselves as the benchmark for proper Bitcoin Cash self-custody for all community members. This is especially relevant for users transitioning from other protocols (such as BTC) who may miss the benefits of having a professional hardware industry at their disposal.To date, we have already developed over 70 pages of training material on Bitcoin Cash self-custody, distributed across seven comprehensive articles. Our ongoing objective is to gradually expand this library to cover all fundamental aspects of Bitcoin, with a special focus on the specific areas where BCH truly differentiates itself.Funding Goal and Use of FundsAt a price of €223.91/BCH, the target for this campaign is set at 51.9 BCH (€10,000 or $11621 USD). The primary use of these funds will be dedicated to sustaining our ongoing hiring efforts, while simultaneously compensating for the development of version 1.1.0, which has been entirely self-funded to date. This capital injection is fundamental to underwrite the development costs required for v2.0.0, thereby guaranteeing the official presentation of the project over the course of 2026.
